It's probably not a good idea to read about missing children cases and unsolved murders on Wikipedia for an hour before bed. I don't even remember how I started on that topic in this particular bout of Wikipedia boredom browsing. ._.
...I know. Kittens. Kittens will prevent nightmares for sure.
You know, I hesitate to really say I have a fascination with morbid stuff like that, because it actually makes me feel sick to my stomach and I don't like it. I avoid horror movies for the same reason. And yet, there are times like this where it feels like driving by a car accident slowly because of some weird irresistible urge we have to stare and take it in.
One time in high school, I was driving home to Naples from Miami after spending a weekend with Nikki. I was about fourteen at the time. We always went back and forth via Alligator Alley, the shabby, narrow two-lane highway that cuts through the scenic Everglades and connects southeast Florida to southwest Florida. It's a dangerous road. High speeds, plenty of wildlife to jump in front of your car, no median between the lanes, typical impatient south Florida drivers and clueless tourists, and no exits or space for emergency vehicles to get quickly to accidents.
It was very close to the halfway point, where my mom and Nikki's mom would meet to pass one of us back over, sharing the driving time. There was a blockade of police cars ahead, completely preventing either westbound lane or eastbound lane from moving. From what you could tell from behind the row of police, the accident involved three cars, but you really couldn't see a lot. They'd stopped traffic about 50 yards away from the accident itself on either side, and even then, they'd positioned police cars and fire trucks in a way to hide whatever had happened.
Being a late Sunday afternoon, there wasn't any time for us to wait for it to get cleared. Nikki's mom explained the situation to a cop, and he agreed to escort me across to the other side where my mother was.
I remember he looked at me and said, "You're going to walk on my right side," (the side opposite the accident) "and we're going to walk over. You're not to look at anything. I want you to stare at the ground. Okay?"
I did exactly what he said and didn't look over at all. I think I was too afraid of the entire situation to dare do that. His tone of voice was that typical intense seriousness and authority that all cops talk with, but the whole situation itself, plus that, just really scared the shit out of me. Why all the secrecy? What didn't they want me to see? He put an arm around my shoulder as we went, too, which didn't help - just made it feel more like whatever was over there was something really terrible.
I don't know, dead bodies or something. Someone sticking out of a windshield covered in blood. Even as I'm typing this my overactive imagination is firing off erratic like blinking Christmas lights.
Anyway, after that I just went home without anything else eventful. But that happening sticks out in my mind as something so bizarre. Something very mysterious, maybe a lesser version of the unsolved mysteries I was just reading about. Where you've got this weird gruesome situation, but there's an important piece of info missing.
I mean, come on. I slowly went by a car accident... but I didn't have the chance for the carnage to soak into my eyes and leave an imprint on my brain. What a weird disappointment.
Anyway, not sure why I started reading all this like I said, but my memory was jogged concerning that incident. Actually, typing all that out made me feel a lot less totally creeped out. So, sleep now.
Also, I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. l-lol.
Once again, I got my rock on at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas tour. WOW. It's definitely become even more of a spectacular since the last time I went.
Some of the highlights:
--TRON LIGHTS. Seriously. They were lights that went around select edges of the stage, and when they were initially turned on, they were Tron blue. Tron lights only seemed an appropriate dubbing.
--Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24 visuals seemed politically charged this year. I can kind of see where you could make the case for such a choice, given the introduction for the song in the liner notes. They had some LED screens that were used throughout the concert, and during that particular song they were displaying things like clips of politicians and flags, war images, and at the very end, a rapidly ticking clock that I suddenly superimposed with the iconic clock from Watchmen, which subsequently FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT.
--Various special effects! Including colored fire, and fireworks inside! That wowed me a bit, that they were doing fireworks inside. Fun stuff!
--The drunk! The drunk that sings is always present, but this year the singer playing him was particularly animated. It was actually kinda fun. His accompaniment had to remind him a couple of times not to drink during the song. XD
--HOVERING PLATFORM. In the past, the musicians have been raised up on basically a motorized scaffolding. Not so this year! This year they were raised on a platform that was supported from the ceiling, complete with colored smoke underneath, which made it look like they were on a GIANT SMOKE-PROPELLED HOVERCRAFT. Not full of eels.
--THE ELECTRIC VIOLINIST. OMG. I loved this woman. She was full of awesome, from her head to her midriff-baring outfit with coattails to her boots. She was playing a pink and black electric violin while she danced and rocked and playfully twirled her bow and kinda sorta made me want to swoon at her awesomeness. She was gorgeous and talented and obviously enjoying herself, which made her downright captivating to watch.
(Edit: Anna Phoebe is her name, and website)
All in all, it was awesome and bright and energetic and a lot of fun. And I even got some knitting in, when the light show was bright enough to knit by. Just how geeky is it that I was knitting at a rock concert? Although I was working on my Zlar scarf, at least. I think she would approve.
Sorry to be a pain in the ass but I just received this dress off the sales comm and I'm wondering if anyone has a stock photo? I found similar floral prints on Flickr but they weren't quite the same. Thanks. :)
OKAY! So there seems to be enough interest in a meet for the SoCal Girls!
It seems that it will be difficult to try and do the movie and little tokyo *Also, may not be a good idea for a roaming pack of lolitas to be in downtown at night*
So, I propose a tea house then the movie and perhaps some shopping or meandering if that's what people would like!
I found this place in Beverly Hills:
http://www.paddingtonstearoom.com/p
Their plates of food are a bit expensive, the but the desert set, with tea, scones truffles etc...is about 20 dollars, which doesn't seem too bad ^_^ And there really isn't anything saying we can't share right ;)
It's done in a very traditional style, the pictures are AMAZING!
After tea the Beverly Center is literally 5 min away! If people can get dropped off at Paddington's Tea, than we can do a carpool to the center *for those without the automotive means. We can see the movie at the center, maybe wander around and take in the Christmas decorations play "count the plastic boobs" etc...(a bad joke there, if it offends, please disregard). If people still want to do a christmas gift exchange please let me know!
THE PROPOSED DATE FOR THE MEET:
THE EIGHTEENTH
SO
HERE IS WHAT I WILL NEED:
If you want to go:
-------Name
-----------Yes or no on Christmas Gift exchange (if the ruling is yes and you don't want to you don't have to, no one is going to pull out a gun with race buletts and point it to your baby dress demanding that you do it, or you'll race that dress.)
----------Any other input or ideas on what you would like to do at this meet
Hey,... so, gallo_de_pelea inspired me to do a drawing a day advent thing for Christmas. (I DID post yesterday, soooo) But... who knows what that'll end up being each day. <3
I have two kinda involved illustrations I want to color, so I'll post them later, but for now,...
And then for those of you who have seen Doctor Who Waters of Mars (spoilers!)

I hear a lot from other writers about how they would love to include gay characters in their stories, but they're too afraid of screwing them up, so they don't try. And that's no good. I don't like seeing people discouraged from including entire groups of people in their stories.
So I wrote a HUGE article about it (or "lens" as they're called) on Squidoo. Hopefully it can inspire people to write more and better gay characters.
Writing Gay Characters.
Have any suggestions to add to the page?
Also, tell people about this article! The more people you tell, the more people can find it and hopefully learn from it.
( noob tl;dr : cut for the uninterested )EDIT: Thank you everyone for answering my (dumb) questions! ^^
