I haven't posted about this yet since it hasn't been set in stone (and it's still slightly up in the air right now, which is unsettling), but I might get to go to Ottawa next weekend! WUSC, that club I'm involved in that runs the student refugee program, has their big Annual General Assembly coming up, and our group wants to send as many people as we can. Unfortunately, for us that means the three student refugees and hopefully three volunteers. We were hoping to send more, but funding cuts in the university mean that a lot of the departments we asked for help don't have the budget to help cover it anymore. So it does mean that I have to pay a portion of my own ticket, but still. Trip to the capital, dude. I haven't even been east of Saskatchewan before!

I am slightly nervous, because besides the students, I'm the only person going who is new to this whole thing. But our leaders have emphasized that they think newer people are more worthwhile sending because they'll get more out of it. Plus the two people I'll be with are very capable in my mind, so I know that, for example, they'll be able to handle networking with the higher-ups in the organization while I'll be going "Dude, we get free breakfast! Yay free breakfast!" I am trying to prepare myself by looking at the schedule and stuff, but yeah.

At least I'm at an advantage in that I know two of the three students already, since I tutor them. Still, after a year of field trips with Flexibility, I still suck at trying to talk to people during travel. >_< As teachers, we were always encouraged required to sit with students on every bus trip and talk to them the whole time. I have awful memories of being all "Sooooooooooo. Those are cows over there. Do you... like.... cows?"
